More Road Updates

Hello faithful readers! Lots of updates today so hang in there!

Yesterday was absolutely magical. I had no idea Utah was such a breathtakingly gorgeous state. I had to stop about every two miles to take in the sights at marked "View Points." Each one had a totally different view, the landscape was ever-changing and evolving. The highlight of yesterday was DEFINITELY Zion National Park. Check out some of the photos I took!

I'm definitely glad I took the time to make this detour, it was 100% worth it to see this stunningly gorgeous park.

However, my GPS decided to be a little a** on the way to my hotel that night. Instead of taking me back to the nice easy interstate, it decided to take me on what I'll nicely refer to as the "scenic route." At first I was feeling pleased about the unexpected direction. My zen mood from Zion had carried over and I was enjoying the relaxing drive down a tiny two lane road in what appeared to be another park. There were peachy pink sand dunes on either side providing lovely views. However, my feelings changed when the teeny tiny paved road turned into a teenier tinier dirt and sand path. I was kicking up a huge cloud of dust behind me and my wheels were slipping and sliding alarmingly in the piles of sand. Knuckles white and teeth gritted, I soldiered on through the miles that followed (it was three but it felt like nineteen). You can imagine my relief when my wheels returned safely to sweet, sweet asphalt.

NOT FUNNY, GLADYS. (I named my GPS Gladys. Gladys the Garmin.)

I should also note that this scenic detour took a good hour longer than returning to the interstate would have. Gladys is a jerk.

But I did make it safely to St. George with lots of time to spare, and settled down with some cheesy breadsticks from Pizza Hut and The Big Bang Theory on tv.

I woke up the next morning (today) too excited to continue sleeping. It wasn't even 6:00 am yet, but I couldn't keep my eyes shut.  Today was the day!

I had a short drive with only one stop - driving down Las Vegas Blvd to see the city. Las Vegas was super cool - I'm going to have to return someday to experience it for real. I have to admit however that my first impressions of California were less than stellar. Once I crossed the border it was nothing but grayish brown sand, scrubby bushes, and mediocre hills. This went on for FOREVER. At least the scenery in Nebraska was pleasantly green!

Hours later, things started looking up. The hills became larger and more beautiful, the landscape started turning greener, and I had finally made it to the big highway after dealing with 40 miles of yet another small two lane road (THANKS GLADYS.)   Then, at approximately 1:50 pm pacific time, I pulled into the parking spot next to the garage at my new house.

It is BEAUTIFUL. Big spacious kitchen and living room, lots of storage space, plenty of sunlight. I have spent the past four hours moving boxes and unpacking and shifting furniture around my room. I have only met one of my roommates as the other two are out at the moment, but so far I love my living situation.

I have also found a desk for $50 that is perfect for my room, and I hope to go pick it up tomorrow evening with the help of an older student with a truck. For now, I'm off to Target to pick up some last minute essentials. Pictures of the house will be posted as soon as I get things in a presentable state :)

I MADE IT!!! :)

Love and Bellyrubs,

Christy
